JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) An administrator tackled questions surrounding the safety of school issued computers after a missing teen used hers to chat online with a man in a sexual manner.Jonesboro Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Kim Wilbanks discussed the multiple safety measures in place on the district laptops on Tuesday, three days after the girl went missing.a student is on campus, we have multiple measures in place, Dr. Wilbanks said. have three layers. We install software on their computer that protects them and keeps them from some sites. We have other software that is installed at the firewall, and then we actually have a firewall. What that does, is it keeps a student from going to sites with adult content that would be inappropriate for a student. on campus, the computer blocks access to social media sites. The question swarming around is how did the teen gain access to a site that led her to the man who groomed her for sexual things.students all signed a computer use agreement where they agree they will not use the computer inappropriately, Wilbanks said. parents signed that. That says you understand that you are going to have to take some responsibility when your students are at home, but we all know kids are savvy and they don often disclose everything with their parents. restrictions are limited outside of school grounds. “It’s a beautiful center and the landlord is awesome. I think we just overestimated the population,”said Gordon Hardey, who opened Jeannine’s Gourmet Food Hallthere in October 2014. He announced its closure this month via a Fourth of July post on Facebook.

“A ton of people live nearby, but they work. They leave for the day. In Santa Barbara, people are always coming in and out,” said Hardey, whose family founded the first Jeannine’s as a bakery, cafe and restaurant in Santa Barbara in 1985. It now has three locations: uptown, downtown and Montecito.

The Santa Barbara County sites remain open. They also are much smaller than the 6,500 square foot food hall, at about 1,200 to 1,500 square feet each.

“That was a bold move on our part. It didn’t work out for us, but another place will do very well there,” Hardey said Tuesday in a phone call with The Star.

Hardey is now looking for a smaller space in Ventura County(Oxnard and Port Hueneme are both in the running) in which to open Oh!MatsuriJapanese Kitchen, the concept he and Kyoto born chef Mako Tanakalaunched in May 2016 with the addition of the Ramen Shop to the food hall’s culinary mix.

Later renamedRamen + Bar, it had been joined by Three Sisters Curry Houseand counters devoted to Nagoya style shave ice and other Japanese specialties before the food hall’s closure at 30770 Russell Ranch Road, Suite G.

On Sunday, workers were seen inside the former pizzeria side of the building, which had an assortment of wooden shutters, cabinets and other furnishings stacked just outside the door (30760 Russell Ranch Road, Suites C and D).

When it opens, the new restaurant will count Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co.,Hook Burger, Q Sushi, and the Santa Barbara County based Los Agaves Mexican Restaurant among its neighbors.

In Thousand Oaks, the in rapid succession closings of Smashburger, J Doughnuts (formerly Stan’s) and White Elephant Thai Cuisine in the Whole Foods Market shopping center is an indication that an all new group of “multiple users” is being sought for the stand alone building, said David Rush of the real estate company CBRE.

Some of the former tenants reached the end of their respective leases, Rush said. White Elephant Thai Cuisine opened in 2007 (688 N. Moorpark Road), followed in 2012 by Ventura County’s first Smashburger (650 N. Moorpark Road). Both restaurants closed in June.

NEW YORK (AP) The Italian brand Bottega Veneta made its debut Friday at New York Fashion Week with the help of Gigi Hadid on the runway and Salma Hayek on the front row, skipping the traditional finale for models lounging on a set designed as a swanky apartment.

The company came to town for one season only (it usually shows in Milan) to mark the opening of its Maison flagship housewares and furniture store on Madison Avenue. Hence, the company’s chairs, couches and other pieces mixed with vintage furnishings at the cavernous American Stock Exchange Building downtown.

On the runway, with Hayek joined in the crowd by Julianne Moore and Priyanka Chopra, the company showed fall and winter collections for both men and women, from floral silk pajamas worthy of lounging in such a space to a black velvet lace dress with diamond cutouts for Hadid.

“Nothing stops them. Nothing seems impossible,

” he said.

That meant, for some of his models, a touch of fur and some soft evening dresses in satin and silk. But it was some of the men who scored big. One walked in a bright orange suit and another in a hipster plaid purple jacket with a tiger print back collar. Still another had on comfy black loafers over yellow socks, wearing narrow cut black trousers paired with coat of many colors (green, yellow, red and gray among them) in a bold geometric design.

These apartment loungers must eventually hit the New York City streets. There were poppy wool jackets, multicolored shearling coats and cashmere sweaters for that. Maier didn’t forget the toll this concrete jungle often takes on the feet,

adding for good measure what he described for women as “statement making boots on a pavement friendly low heel.”

The car does the driving for you. It keeps you in your lane, and will maintain a safe distance between you and the car in front of you. However, we did experience some hiccups on our test drive. Instead of going straight at a red light, the car followed the truck in front of us turning left.

Also, if you the first one at red light or a stop sign, you have to stop the car yourself. But when we approached a man on a bicycle on the side of the road, the car slowed down and went around him.

Mike: “It really like having a great co pilot, isn it?”

Up next, we speed it up on 490.

Mike: “Now watch this. Turn on your left blinker.”

Nikki: “It changing lanes for me!”

Mike: “Yup!”

The Tesla managed the curves during the morning drive on 490 flawlessly.

Nikki: “Were you scared at first?”

Mike: “Oh, I scared right now!”

So what about safety? News10NBC spoke with Monroe County Sheriff Deputy Matthew Mackenzie in the Traffic Enforcement Unit.

Nikki: “Self driving cars. Have you guys had any issues locally?”

Deputy Mackenzie: “Not as of yet.”

He believes this new technology will improve safety.

Deputy Mackenzie: “Human factor is a big cause of crashes. If we can take that out of the equation, I see the roads becoming safer.”

But the one rule everyone has to follow?

Deputy Mackenzie: “They are still required to have one hand on the wheel.”

The Tesla beeps and warns you if you don hold onto the steering wheel after a certain amount of time. And if you hoping to be able to sleep on a long drive or on the way into work keep dreaming.

Mike: “It not perfect. You have to stay awake.”

Deputy Mackenzie says you also have to be sober and be able to take over control of the vehicle at all times.

Deputy Mackenzie: “Ultimately, I can issue a ticket to a car. It going to be the operator of the car.”

Another thing to keep in mind: the auto pilot on the Tesla will not work when you can see the lines on the road.

Tiffany Haddish: Haddish earned raves and belly laughs for her scene stealing role in the rowdy summer comedy Girls Trip. It got serious when Haddish won the New York Film Critics Circle best supporting actress award and was nominated for two Critics’ Choice Awards. But even as Haddish gamely read off the nominations early Tuesday, her own name was not on the list.

James Franco: Franco was on the awards fast track for his critically praised role portraying Tommy Wiseau, the creator of one of the worst movies ever made, The Room, in The Disaster Artist. But allegations of sexual misconduct emerged following Franco’s win for best actor at the Golden Globes in January. After an outcry, Franco was shut out at the SAG Awards Sunday and missed out on an Oscar nomination. The Disaster Artist did not receive a best picture nomination.

Armie Hammer: Timoth Chalamet earned a best actor nomination for his role in the coming of age love story Call Me By Your Name, which was also nominated for best picture. But Chalamet’s co star Hammer missed out on the nomination (as did fellow supporting actor Michael Stuhlbarg and director Luca Guadagnino).

‘Wonder Woman’: Wonder Woman was the movie story of 2017, a critically acclaimed box office smash directed by a woman (Patty Jenkins) and featuring a woman superhero (portrayed by Gal Gadot). But neither made the Oscars cut and Wonder Woman was shut out completely. The fan favorite was not able to earn a best picture nomination even with the expanded field nine films were voted in for 10 possible best picture spots.

Emma Stone and Steve Carell: Stone and Carell volleyed onscreen in Battle of the Sexes, portraying Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs in their famed tennis match. Stone, who won a best actress Oscar last year for La La Land, missed out on a return trip and a best actress nomination. Carell, who donned heavy prosthetics to play Riggs and earned a SAG nomination, lost out for Oscar’s best supporting actor.

Michelle Williams: All the Money in the World overcame tremendous obstacles to remain a viable movie following revelations of alleged sexual misconduct involving star Kevin Spacey. Spacey’s role was reshot with Christopher Plummer as billionaire J. Paul Getty. (Plummer was nominated for best supporting actor.) After a national outcry following revelations of a pay disparity for reshoots between Williams and co star Mark Wahlberg, Williams did not receive a nomination.

‘The Big Sick’: The touching yet comedic story of Kumail Nanjiani (playing himself) and Emily V. Gordon (Zoe Kazan) overcoming sickness and cultural differences to find love turned into a mainstream hit and awards darling. But The Big Sick missed out on major Oscar hits including best picture, Holly Hunter for supporting actress and Ray Romano for supporting actor.

Hong Chau: The Downsizing star made an impact with her breakthrough performance, earning Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and SAG Award nominations. But the Vietnamese American actress missed out on a best supporting nomination.

‘Mudbound’: The Netflix movie wowed critics with strong performances and a timeless story of blacks and whites struggling to survive American rural life after World War II. Even after scoring a cast nomination from the Screen Actors Guild, director Dee Rees’ film couldn’t garner an equivalent best picture Oscar nomination. Mary J. Blige (supporting actress) and cinematographer Rachel Morrison scored major Mudbound nominations.

A “murder warrant” has been issued for a man now identified as a suspect in the slaying of three family members near Palmdale earlier this month, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced Wednesday night.

Sheriff’s investigators released this photo of James “Todd” Brown on Jan. 17, 2018.

An investigation began when three adults and three dogs were found dead in a home on West Avenue N 12 on the afternoon of Jan. 13 after a sister of one of the victims went to the home to celebrate her brother’s birthday.

The three were identified as 78 year old Richard Gardner II, his wife, 56 year old Pepper Gardner, and his son, 52 year old Richard Gardner III. He lived on the property for about two years, working odd jobs to make money, said Lt. John Corina of the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.

Corina said investigators believe Brown was apparently involved in a dispute with the family, and that it escalated.

The suspect is described as white, with brown and gray hair, and brown eyes, according to the sheriff’s bulletin. He is about 6 feet tall and weighs approximately 265 pounds, according to the bulletin. 14, 2018. (Credit: KTLA)

Brown is believed to be driving a 2002 silver Toyota pickup with a camper shell, with California license plate No. 42198C1. He may have a German shepherd with him.

“Just wonderful people. And it’s just their lives got taken away too soon.” said Mary Dean Ronin, who was related to the victims.

Friends told KTLA that the son had moved in to help care for his father, who was bedridden after several strokes, and worked as a window washer in the area. They remembered Richard Gardner III as a kind and funny man who liked to carry out pranks and regularly attended church.

Discount mulberry nursery Outlet Is soy milk better for you than cows’ milk

genuine mulberry bags Is soy milk better for you than cows’ milk

Not so long ago there was only one type of milk: it came in a glass bottle, it had a shiny metal top and the milkman left it on your doorstep before the sun came up. This milk came from cows and most people drank it.

These days plain old cows’ milk is viewed with a certain amount of suspicion and it’s often believed to be the cause of health issues ranging from high cholesterol to excess mucus production. Our increasing distrust of cows’ milk has conincided with a dramatic increase in the number of dairy alternatives you can buy.

One of the most popular of these is soy milk, which comes from soy beans, and is regarded by many as a far healthier choice. But is this really the case?

“Soy isn’t automatically a better choice than dairy in every case,” says accredited practising dietitian Denise Griffiths.

“If you’re having full fat dairy, then soy might be a better alternative, but if you’re making good choices with your dairy products then there’s no need to switch.”

Complete foodGriffiths says there’s nothing in the scientific literature to suggest we all need to replace cows’ milk with soy milk. Both are good sources of protein and a range of other essential vitamins and minerals, although cows’ milk is naturally a better source of calcium.

“The reason we drink [cows’] milk as humans is because it is one of the most complete foods in our diets and it contains many of the nutrients that we need,” she says.

“The calcium in dairy foods is really easily absorbed by the body, especially in comparison to plant foods that contain calcium, such as broccoli, as the body isn’t always able to get the calcium out of these plant foods.”

We need calcium to help us maintain healthy bones and other essential processes in our body, which is why it’s recommended that we aim for two to three serves of low fat dairy every day.

(For more on the importance of calcium, recommended daily intakes for all age groups, and what makes a serve of calcium, check out our feature Boost your bone bank).

Dairy foods contain vitamins A, B12 and D and other essential nutrients. Unfortunately full fat dairy also contains a lot of saturated fat, which is one reason why some people make the decision to switch to soy. (You want to avoid saturated fat as it increases your cholesterol levels and your risk of heart disease.)

But if you’re having reduced fat cows’ milk, and other reduced fat dairy foods including yoghurt and cheese, then you’re getting all the goodies you get from full fat dairy and a little bit extra calcium (there’s more calcium in reduced fat dairy products).

However, soy is a great alternative if you’re lactose intolerant or allergic to dairy, or for those with ethical issues around consumption of animal products, as long as it’s calcium fortified.

Soy’s selling pointsBut it doesn’t have to be all or nothing when it comes to soy versus dairy.

Soy milk and other soy based products including tofu, soy cheese and yoghurt are good sources of iron, fibre (which you don’t get in dairy) and other vitamins.

Soy foods also contain antioxidants known as isoflavones, which are phytoestrogens.

Phytoestrogens are compounds found in plant foods such as legumes, flaxseed and soy based foods that may mimic the hormone oestrogen in some circumstances. Some research suggests eating foods that contain phytoestrogens may have health benefits including a reduction in risk of certain hormonal cancers (breast and prostate) and a lessening of certain symptoms of menopause, for example hot flushes.

But one of soy’s key selling points is that it’s lower in saturated fat than dairy.

“It’s a plant based food . so it has less saturated fat than animal products, especially dairy products,” Griffiths says.

She says we could all benefit from substituting some serves of dairy for soy products after all, a varied and balanced diet is likely to be a healthy one.

“It’s great to include a wide variety of foods in your diet. and making sure that in your shopping trolley you have a range of products so that you’re covering all your different nutrients,” she says.

Denise Griffiths is an accredited practising dietitian who works at Curtin University in Western Australia. She is also a spokesperson for the Dietitians Association of Australia, which has a corporate partnership with Dairy Australia. She spoke to Claudine Ryan.

mulberry bag sale john lewis James Hetfield on the future of Metallica

Thirty five years in, Metallica frontman James Hetfield still really loves his job.

tell ya, when I talking about or thinking about or playing or listening to music, it a joy, said the singer rhythm guitarist.

a great language for me. And a therapy, there no doubt about that. caught up with Hetfield, who famously overcame alcohol abuse and band infighting in the 2004 Metallica documentary Some Kind of Monster, in Toronto recently for a one on one chat.

Among the subjects: the group first studio album in eight years, Hardwired . To Self Destruct, their long game, and his own family who recently relocated to Colorado.

The new album went to No. 1 in 57 countries. Does that ever get old?

No, absolutely not. And it a shock. It really is. I got an email with how many countries it went number one it blew my mind. It a lot. And the tour could go really long. in Uganda? We going to go play there? That would be awesome. But I tell ya, it makes me happy that people have either been waiting or they really need some hard rock out there.

You survivors of the genre yourselves after 35 years. Is that what the new album title refers to among other things?

Stuff that just in my head as a dad, as a ponderer of the future for generations. What is it going to be like for them. And a very cynical view of just getting to complain for a little bit. Gosh, things are really scary. But what do you do with that? Where do you ground yourself? Obviously, we have music that we able to do that with, or family. So the song Hardwired was the last song written and it kind of summed up all of the songs.

What affected you personally during this time?

The death of [Motorhead Lemmy which was kind of a, he was idol of ours. Right, we all human at the end of the day. There a lot [of musicians] that have passed in [2016] and it wakes you up to want to live more. And then another subject that was on my mind, me having children that are extremely plugged into social media and what does that mean to them. At one point is the convenience dependence? And you know kind of a cliched dystopian view of man, machine. Just a lot of wonderment still. Giant question marks.

You have three teenagers aged 14, 16, 18 are they musical?

Yeah, of course. They love music. They thrive on it. I love watching them listen to music. They like everything and anything. Whoever sitting shotgun is the DJ. And the kids are in the back most of the time. So my wife [in control]. She likes anything that dance. and The Sunshine Band, anything that gets them boogying. and The Sunshine Band actually plays in your car?

Oh, hell yeah. I love that too. That fun music. My kids love it too. But she be flipping through the stations and my two older kids will say, no, change it. And my youngest daughter will go, like that song. But she just loves everything and she knows every song on every station. It blows my mind.

How much longer do you think Metallica can go on for, given the physical nature of playing this kind of music?

We don know. We pioneering this ourselves. And we making it up as we go along. It will reveal itself, however it does. If one show somebody can get up and perform then we kind of know. We trying to be as smart as possible with it and tour age appropriate. At the end of the day we want to have fun out here and if we doing three in a row and it hard to get up the third show then why? It not the money that driving us, it the fun.

You been sober for over a decade. Do you look more forward now to touring?

It not a tour of bars and strip clubs anymore. It actually, there a great restaurant or here a really cool, whatever, there a car show in town. Getting out and doing stuff. I love just walking too. Just kind of get lost in the city. So yeah, priorities have certainly changed.
