Please continue to pray for Sydney and our entire family. May God grant eternal rest unto thee. We love you Sydney.”
Lincoln police and the FBI said at a news conference Tuesday morning that they believe a body found in an open area of rural Clay County, which is now closed off, is Loofe’s.
Officials said a confirmation of her identity will not be released until an autopsy is completed.
“On behalf of the FBI, we extend our deepest heartfelt condolences to Sydney’s parents, George and Susie, her brother and sister, her friends, and all that were fortunate enough to know her,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Randall Thysse said during the press briefing.
Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said it was a combination of interviews with “persons of interest” Aubrey Trail, 51, and Bailey Boswell, 23, and analysis of digital evidence that led investigators to Clay County.
Around 40 law enforcement officers were on the ground Tuesday, searching for evidence in an area south of Sutton, Bliemeister said.
“By their own statements on social media, we believe that Aubrey Trail and Bailey Boswell were two of the last people known to have been with Sydney prior to her disappearance,” Bliemeister said.
According to officials, there is evidence of foul play, but representatives at Tuesday’s news conference wouldn’t elaborate further.
Trail and Boswell are in the Saline County jail. Officials say they will continue to speak with Trail “as long as he is willing to do that.”
